Frequently Asked Questions

Is this going to cost too much?

Different projects have so many different needs, so we don’t list prices until we really sit down and talk about exactly what this record is going to be. Your next album is your investment in you. This takes a lot of time and care to really get right. This will be done with a lot of time, attention and all the creative energy multiple careers in this industry brings. We will work with you to really get the best out of this time here. Our #1 goal is for our artists to make multiples of what they spend here.

If we can't get together now, how are we going to find a whole week to record this?

That’s a good question! I will work with your schedule, and we can really find a time where your whole group can come. Remember that Byrdsongs Studios will take care of every aspect, so all you really have to do is show up to the mic that week and do your best, and all of the other work is taken care of. The record can be actually done! You just have to listen and approve after this!

Can’t I get the same result if I just come to Nashville and stay in a hotel and find a producer and a nice studio?

Sure... Maybe… The difference here is that you don’t have to book 3 hotel rooms, and fight Nashville traffic every morning. You just wake up and walk out one door and into the studio and go for it! I also like to focus on the project and not the hourly pay. In a downtown studio, it’s nearly impossible to get a full week, so you’re rushed, and that doesn’t lead to making good art. Here, as long as you’re here, you have your own private studio to yourself the whole time. You’ll be sleeping in the same building you’re recording in. That’s a great commute!

Is an outside producer going to not get what we’re trying to do and mess up our songs?

That’s a very common question. When you reach a higher level, and you’re aiming at even a higher level than that, you really have to get an outside opinion. It’s not my goal to change who you are, or what your music is. My goal is to help you find the absolute best version of yourself, and get it on tape.

Can I just send our home recorded album to a professional mix engineer and get the same result?

I hate to talk about gear. But now is the time. Byrdsongs studios is fully planned, engineered, and built to be a professional commercial recording facility. We have an analog console and great analog preamps and a grand piano and microphones and isolation rooms and a spacious live room that are all made for the sole purpose of recording. Getting the BEST source tracks makes the mix better. Being able to record all at the same time in a space big enough for your whole band adds an energy that separately recorded tracks just can’t match. We get it right the first time with the right stuff in a great space, and you can hear it.

How long will I need to stay there?

That depends on the album length and the band. I have worked with groups that can lay down 5 songs in a day. I’ve also worked with bands that take 2 days for 1 song. We figure all of this out with a simple one hour call where we talk about what’s going to happen when you’re here. Usually in a 5 day week in the studio, we can get 8 songs in the can and ready for post production. Check in Sunday afternoon and load in, then record all week, and load out Friday evening, then head home Saturday morning. Or stay the weekend and enjoy Middle Tennessee!

I want to do this, but we can’t afford it. Is there a payment plan?

Of course there is! We will work together to set up automatic payments that fit your time and needs.
